India’s women cricket team advanced to the finals of ICC Women’s T20 World Cup for the first time in history after rain washed out the semi-final against England at the SCG on Thursday. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur’s team entered the final because team India finished on top of Group A after winning all their 4 matches of the group stages while England finished at No.2.

However, England had a better net run-rate than India but they crashed out after having won only three out of the four games in the group stage. While the Indian fans are happy that their team has reached the finals, but they are a bit disappointed since they wanted a contest between the two sides to declare finalists.

Women Indian team kicked off their tournament with a 17-run win over Australia and now both will once again face each other in the final of the T20 World Cup. Australia being the defending champions, must be familiar with the situation but India has never been into the T20 World Cup final before. India Women team will be riding high on the confidence since they have not lost a single match till now. The fact that they are undefeated in the tournament will boost the team’s atmosphere and overall confidence of the team.

Both the semi-finals were rain-affected, one being washed out other being completed through the DLS method. ICC did not arrange for reserve days in case of washouts since there is no control over the weather condition.

The Indian fans will be cheering for the women team in the finals on Sunday ( 8th February 2020). On the other hand, Harmanpreet Kaur and co will look to win their maiden ICC T20 World Cup title. No matter the result, the match itself will be historic for both the countries as fans across both countries love this game and want their team to win matches. But we hope, our girls clinch the title and make our country proud.

According to a prediction made by Gracenote, India is expected to win 12 medals in Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Gracenote is a US-based company that analyzes team and individual results from their performances in the past Olympics & World Championships. They generally publish an estimate before every game, and for this year’s Olympics they see India finishing on 23rd position with 12 medals, including 2 gold, 4 silver, and 6 bronze.

It’s almost six months to go to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and players from all over the globe are ready for the competition. In the last Olympic in Rio 2016, it was India’s largest-ever delegation sent to the Olympics, with a total of 117 Indian athletes participated including 63 men and 54 women, across 15 sports at the Games.

In 2016 Rio Olympic, P. V. Sindhu in Badminton Women’s singles won a Silver medal for the country, on the other hand, Sakshi Malik won Bronze in Wrestling.

This year total of 63 participants are participating including 36 men and 27 women in 6 sports which include- Archery, Athletics, Equestrian, Field hockey, Shooting, Wrestling.
With wrestlers, shooters, & boxers especially the consistently returning with medals, we have seen Indian athletes sporting fare well in world events.

In the London 2012 Olympics, Deepika Kumari entered the event as the number one archer in the world after clinching gold in the World Championships. However, at the grandest stage, she failed to perform well. In the 2016 Rio Olympics, shooter Jitu Rai, who had been termed as the ‘Golden Man in India’ found it tough to keep up with the pressure and returned empty-handed.

The study by Gracenote takes into account India’s performance in the past World Championships and the World Cups for the end result, which is not necessarily a projection of how many medals will be won in Tokyo this year. So remember, it’s just a projection and not the final numbers.

The unbeaten centuries by the Australian openers David Warner and Aaron Finch at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai flattened the Indian team on Tuesday. The brilliant bowling by the Australian bowler Starc and Cummins restrict the Indian team to 255 runs.

The Indian team failed to set a huge target against the Kangaroos, due to the early dismissal of the top batsmen like Rohit and Virat.
Dhawan was the top-scorer with 74 runs while K.L Rahul fell three short of his fifty.  Their 121-runs were the most valuable contributions from the lower order which helped India to post 255 runs on board.

Here are some of the records broken in this match:

1. It was India’s fifth ten-wicket defeat in ODIs – previously, two were to South Africa and one each to New Zealand and West Indies.

2. This 10-wicket loss was India’s second in ODIs at home India, first being to South Africa at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on November 25, 2005.

3. The chase down of 256 by Australia is the second-highest by any team without losing a single wicket in ODIs.  The first one was South Africa who chased 279 vs Bangladesh at Kimberley on October 15, 2017.

4. The unbeaten match-winning innings of 128 runs by David Warner is his highest against India.

5. It was Australia’s second-highest opening stand in ODIs. The highest was 284 runs between Travis Head and David Warner against Pakistan.

6. It was for the fourth time in ODIs that Aaron Finch and David Warner have registered 150-plus for the first wicket, breaking an Australian record held by Adam Gilchrist and Mark Waugh.

7. Aaron Finch posted his first hundred as captain in ODIs against India.

8. The partnership of 258 by Warner and Finch is the highest by an opening pair against India, overhauling the 235 of South Africa’s Herschelle Gibbs and Gary Kirsten.

West Indies on Sunday night leveled the 3 match series, leaving it to a decider on Wankhede soil. Simmons guided West Indies in the 2nd T20 to a win at Thiruvananthpuram. Indian Captain, Virat Kohli won the toss and decided to bowl first in 2nd T20 where the middle order nightmare once again came back haunting the men in blue. After the loss of the openers, Shivam Dube showcased his talent and hit his maiden half-century including some massive sixes. Once Dube departed and Kohli fell without scorning big, the team scattered in pieces. Team India’s middle order failed to deliver again in the T20’s. The pitch was little gripping also it was evident that ball stuck a bit and the ball wasn’t coming on the bat properly. Indian batsmen tried hitting the ball with power but slower balls and cutters from the bowlers made difficult for the team to score runs freely.

With the third T20 being held at Wankhede, Rohit Sharma will be eyeing to score big as the previous two innings wasn’t great in terms of scoring runs at his caliber. The series decider will grab a lot of eyeballs since so much of friendly rivalry was seen on the field when Indian captain Virat Kohli was batting in the 1st T20. He was annoyed by some poor decision by umpires and also a banter between West Indies pacer, Williams. On the other hand, West Indies team go all guns blazing to win the series against India so that their T20 ranking ( Currently Number 10 T20 side) can improve. Also, the series will be important for Captain Virat as well since he did not play the last T20 series against Bangladesh. So both the teams will be looking to win the last decider match to secure the series. Are you excited?

As the air quality index (AQI) entered the “severe plus” or “emergency” category on 1st November, the Supreme Court-mandated Environment Pollution Prevention and Control Authority (EPCA) on Friday declared a public health emergency.
EPCA Chairman Bhure Lal sent a letter to chief secretaries of Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, stating that- As the air quality in Delhi and NCR deteriorated, it is now at the ‘severe-plus’ level. We have to take this as a public health emergency as it will have adverse health impacts on all, particularly on children and aged.

With the high levels of pollutants in the air, it is high time to follow some preventive measures to save yourself from falling ill.

THINGS TO DO TO SAVE YOURSELF FROM AIR POLLUTION

1. Drink more water as it will help you to flush out toxins and harmful particles from your body.

2. Get some indoor air-purifying plants like Areca Palm, Snake plant, Money plant at your home and office to keep the air as clean as possible.

3. Eat proper healthy diet to boost your immunity.  Your diet needs to be especially rich in Vitamin C-rich foods like lemon, amla, oranges, guava, etc. Vitamin E and Beta Carotene will also help in boosting the immune system. Almonds, sunflower seeds, peanuts, bran oil, pine nuts, etc can be included in the diet.

4. Start wearing a good quality masks to protect you from the harmful pollutants floating in the air. Surgical masks are not meant to serve this purpose, so do not use them as they do not qualify to protect you from the hazardous particles present in the air. Use N95 or N99 masks.
N95 pollution mask

5. If you are a patient of respiratory problems like asthma, make sure to take your medicines regularly.

6. Carpooling is a great option to save the environment. Start carpooling with your colleagues or people travelling on the same route to reduce the number of vehicles on the road.

THINGS TO AVOID

-Avoid high intensity outdoor workouts and exercise on the smoggy mornings.

-Avoid bigger roads with more traffic, as emission from vehicle is very dangerous.
