The cabinet passes the Citizenship Amendment Bill and Bill seeks to provide Indian nationality to six communities Hindus, Christians, Sikhs, Parsis, Jains and Buddhists who migrated from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh excluding the Muslim community. There are mixed reactions where a bunch of people who are opposing also many who are supporting the Bill. Protest from various parts have already started to withdraw this Citizenship Amendment Bill also, people called it an anti-national bill.
Here is how people reacted on the Citizenship Amendment Bill –
1)
Grateful to PM @narendramodi ji led Union cabinet for approving the #CitizenshipAmendmentBill to grant citizenship to lakhs of persecuted Sikhs, Hindus & other religious minorities who fled Pakistan, Bangladesh & Afghanistan to take refuge in India. The move is deeply appreciable pic.twitter.com/p53rceNE0e

“The basic idea of India has been violated in the bill. Those who believe that religion should determine nationhood… that was the idea of Pakistan, they created Pakistan,” said #ShashiTharoor on #CitizenshipAmendmentBill https://t.co/OLMmhnPlYx

All this while, we were protesting and resisting to save India from turning into a ‘Hindu Pakistan’.
But now it looks like the day is not far when we will turn into a ‘Hindu Israel’.#CitizenshipAmendmentBill— Arfa Khanum Sherwani (@khanumarfa) December 4, 2019

The #CitizenshipAmendmentBill should not be seen in isolation. Its extremely dangerous implications become clear when it is seen along with NRC. In short, it is nothing but a 21st century rehashed version of Savarkar and Jinnah’s two nation theory.#NoToCAB #BoycottNRC

Kudos to Union Cabinet and @narendramodi Ji for clearing #CitizenshipAmendmentBill. It will help Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis, and those who come to India after facing religious persecution in Bangladesh, Pakistan, etc. even if they don’t possess proper documents.

A secular country’s citizenship law can never be driven by religion. If Gandhi were alive, he would be fasting against this citizenship law. Muslims are persecuted too- think Baloch, Shias, Rohingyas. This bill is against the grain of who we are. My take https://t.co/ak7M2kSs9e

#CitizenshipAmendmentBill: “We have already seen most of the Northeast govt has already opposed the Bill. I would like our Sikkim Govt to do the same. This bill is completely against the interest of Sikkimese people and Article 371 F”

#CitizenshipAmendmentBill is there because of religion based persecution. Religion is the operative word and idea, not persecution. Demanding that Muslims should be part of it is like saying feudal upper-castes should also be provided caste based reservations.
