Cyclone Amphan: Odisha and West Bengal on High Alert

A super cyclone is approaching towards the coasts of West Bengal and Odisha. The cyclone name Amphan is set to make landfall on 20th May in India. The India Meteorological Department released an official statement where they said, Amphan is most likely to cross between Digha (West Bengal) and Hatiya Islands (Bangladesh) on Wednesday also it is expected to carry wind speed of 155-165 kmph, ultimately reaching to 185 kmph. The super cyclone might have its impact on West Bengal, Odisha, Puducherry, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

The coast of the expected landfall place will experience heavy rainfall until 20^th May. The rainfall will also accompany speedy wind that will reach 155mph. All the measures are being followed and precaution are taken in order to avoid any serious damage to the cities or place. National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are on toes and fishermen are advised not to travel for couple of days.

PM Modi and the government officials had extensive planning on to ensure maximum safety to the citizens of India. The East Coast Railway is ready with special pool of team to restore the tracks, signal systems and other electrification. Also, Diesel locomotives have been kept positioned to utilize in case of electricity failure. PM interacted with Ministry of Home Affairs to review the whole scenario through video conferencing.

Evacuation process has already been started in most likely affected areas. Odisha government is ready with all the preparedness as seven lakh people are under radar to get affected due to super cyclone Amphan. The cyclone can leave severe damage to various parts of west coasts of India. We hope, people remain safe and the damage is least.
