Coronavirus in India: Latest Updates

Going by the latest information released by the Union Health Ministry, the number of Coronavirus positive cases has reached 13,387 in India.  There is also an increase in the death toll to 437, as per the latest data released on Friday. 

The most affected state in the country is Maharashtra that has the highest number of cases. The number stands at  3,205 there. Delhi,  is the second spot with the number of cases equals to  1,640.

In Rajasthan, the situation is quite similar to Delhi and the number there has gone up to 1,131, followed by 1,120 in Madhya Pradesh, 930 in Gujarat and 805 in the state of  Uttar Pradesh. 

In comparison, the south part of the country is doing better where Telangana has reported 700 cases, followed by Andhra Pradesh at 534 and Kerala at only 395. Kerala was the state where the first COVID -19 patients were found.

Similarly, in Karnataka, the number of cases toll at 315, Jammu and Kashmir at 315, West Bengal at 255, and Haryana at 204 and Punjab at 185.

Bihar and Odisha have reported only 80 and 60 cases respectively.

Seeing the COVID-19 virus cases surge, currently, the country is under a nationwide lockdown supposedly till 3rd Ma. Also, the International Monetary Fund says that it supports India’s decision of nationwide lockdown in the fight against the pandemic.

  • The center says, there is no shortage of hydroxychloroquine or paracetamol in the country. The requirement for domestic consumption is assessed daily and then the excess that can be exported. Union Minister Sadananda Gowda stated that they keep 10 days stock with them

  • Indian Air Force air is transporting medical equipment within the country. The first consignment of medical equipment was lifted from Delhi to Nagaland. The ministry said on Twitter, “The first consignment of equipment required to set up a Bio-Safety Level-3 laboratory in Nagaland was delivered with the help of the C-17 Globemaster III, the biggest transport aircraft of Indian Air Force on 16th April under Lifeline UDAN”, as per ANI report.

  • There is finally some relief for Noida and Gurgaon residents. For many days now, 29 localities in Noida were under stringent containment measures, but now the Noida authorities have lifted the ban in four areas. Similarly, Gurgaon has also lifted the stringent measures from the areas that were under complete lockdown, this decision was taken after there were no new cases reported.

  • The Delhi government has directed private schools in the state to follow a few guidelines. Manish Sisodia stated that no hike in the fees is allowed during the lockdown, and no student can be restricted from attending online classes. It is also mandatory to pay staff salaries, whether contractual or full time.
