Facebook’s New Messenger Room: Allow 50 people together on a video call

Now you can host a video conference by creating a room direct from Messenger or Facebook.

On 24th April Friday, Facebook entered with a complete video calling solution in the market. The CEO of the company said about the Messenger Rooms, that it is a video conferencing tool that will allow up to 50 people to join in on a live video call.

People can now host a video conference by creating a room right from Facebook or Messenger and then can invite anyone to join through links. Hosts will be able to invite people to join the video conference through Events, News Feed, and Facebook Groups. The best part is that there is no need to have a Facebook account to join the live session. Facebook claims that these video calls will be able to have room for up to 50 people. According to the company, soon the hosts will be able to create rooms from Instagram Direct, WhatsApp and Portal also. Users will be able to join the video call by using a mobile device or computer.


For now, video calls on Messenger Rooms have no time limit and includes features like augmented reality effects, immersive 360 backgrounds, and even mood lighting. Room hosts can select who can see and enter the room and can also lock the room and remove users. Also, the participants can leave a room whenever they wish for even if it is locked by the host. All the members of the Messenger Rooms will be able to see and hear whatever the other participants say or share in the room. Those participants, who don’t join the call using Facebook or Messenger, will just have to enter their name to help other members spot them.





Till yesterday, multiple reports had claimed that WhatsApp is also planning to increase the number of participants in their video and audio calling conference to eight people. And finally today the company has confirmed that WhatsApp is in fact planning to launch the update very soon.

“Soon you’ll be able to have group voice and video calls with up to eight people on WhatsApp. As before, these calls are secured with end-to-end encryption so no one else can view or listen to your private conversation, not even WhatsApp” the company said in a statement.


Zoom, another video conferencing service provider that mainly focuses on group video calling has shot huge popularity after lockdowns came into effect due to coronavirus. The app still allows up to 100 people on a call for, in its free version.
