Born 11 December 1922, Muhammad Yusuf Khan, professionally known as Dilip Kumar turns 97 today.
Popularly known as The First Khan of Bollywood, Kumar made his debut in 1944 from the film Jwar Bhata, produced by Bombay Talkies. Worked in over 65 films, he is best known for his roles in films such as Andaz, Babul, Deedar, Daag, Devdas, Naya Daur, Madhumati, Kohinoor, and the epic historical Mughal-e-Azam.
He was the first recipient of the Filmfare Best Actor Award in 1954 and has won a total of ten Filmfare Awards in his career. The Government of India honored him with the Padma Bhushan award in 1991, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1994 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2015 for his contributions towards Indian cinema. The legend also holds the Guinness World Record, for winning the maximum number of awards by an Indian actor. Within a decade, he became one of the biggest stars of Bollywood.
Currently, he and his wife Saira Bano live in the Bandra suburb, Mumbai.
