For Tapasi, a domestic help worker and her significant other, her husband Bapan, a daily earning worker, it becomes hard to survive as they are both out of employment.

Dreading the spread of COVID-19, people have quit utilizing her domestic service rendering her jobless for as far back as 3 months. While her day by day breadwinner spouse living in West Midnapore is experiencing the equivalent.

Not having the option to provide food for their child, they allegedly sell off their more than 2 and a half-month-old little girl for Rs. 3,000.

On Thursday, Police and officials of NGO Childline recuperated the newborn child from a house in Howrah. The infant was admitted to a state-run clinic. While her folks are still on the loose.

Agnishwar Chowdhury, the sub-divisional cop of Ghatal shared that the kid was recouped from a couple’s home who were far from family members of the genuine parents.

A police officer stated that:

“The couple’s neighbors told us Tapasi used to work as domestic help. Most families are not allowing their domestic help at their houses. Tapasi lost her job. Bapan, too, was a daily wage earner and he, too, had no work. We learned the couple was struggling to procure food for the child “

After investigation, the police officer shared that
“The first tip-off we received was from Bapan’s neighbors who could not find the child anywhere. They did not hear her crying. When we started probing, we came to know about Bapan’s distance relatives, who are a childless couple.”

The area child protection official, Sandip Kumar Bose expressed that the newborn child would be in the emergency clinic for 3-4 days and after that will be sent to a state-run home.

MLA of Ghatal, Mr. Shakar Dalui said that he cannot believe the selling off the baby girl because of a fund shortage. He stated that:
“The state government has floated several schemes for the poor. Rice is being given free of cost. There are other schemes as well. Even after this if the couple sold their daughter it is unthinkable.”

With so many people unemployed now, it is heartbreaking and saddening to see the current scenario of the country.
