Bollywood films sold to OTT platform for whopping amount of money!

Global pandemic has forced Bollywood to choose an alternative path in order to make their usual business through movies. OTT platforms are paying handsome money to release big Bollywood star studded movies. Since the theatre are shut from past few months, making money for distributor to film maker, from producers to project workers, it’s been a tough ride so far. The ‘new normal’ has given another perspective of life, how there can be other way round. Certainly, people want to time travel to old days where, everyone was free to roam and watch movies at theatres. Now, things have changed quite a bit and it’s a different ball game altogether.

Back in the day, any movie was considered hit or flop measuring the amount of money it made on the box office. However, now films are pre-valued on various parameter based on reasons known to the OTT owners. A hefty sum of money is paid to the makers in return of all the film rights.

In addition, this pandemic gave OTT platform golden opportunity to cash on Bollywood releases. Online platforms are ready pay whopping money to bring Bollywood films on their dashboard. So, here are some of Bollywood films and the money paid by the OTT platforms for the same –

1) Khuda Haafiz –

Another Vidyut Jammwal action film, featuring debutant Shivaleeka Oberoi. The movie is based on real incidents and has been put under romantic thriller category. Khuda Haafiz was sold to Disney+ Hotstar for estimated amount of 10cr.

2) Lootcase –

Lootcase revolves around a suitcase full of cash, Kunal Kemmu plays the lead role in the film. The movie shows what he does with the bag full of money. Lootcase is only one comedy film in recent releases. The film was sold at 10cr to Disney+ hotstar.

3) Dil Bechara –

Sushant Singh Rajput’s last film, Dil Bechara has been receiving lot of love ever since it was announced to be released on 24th July. The movie is said to be Hindi remake of Hollywood blockbuster ‘Fault in our stars’. Dil Bechara makers cracked the deal worth 40cr with Disney+ Hotstar.

4) Shakuntala Devi –

Film stars Vidya Balan, Dangal fame Sanaya Malhotra and Amit Sadh. Shakuntala Devi is said to be biographical film and the deal between makers and Amazon prime closed at 40cr.

5) The Big Bull –

Abhishek Bachchan and Ileana D’cruz starrer, The Big Bull is based on stockbroker Hashad Mehta’s growth and downfall in the industry. The film makers closed the deal with Disney+ Hotstar for 40cr.

6) Gunjan Saxena –

A biopic on female Indian Air force pilot, Gunjan Saxena will star Janhvi Kapoor as main lead. Based on true Kargil war story, the film bagged staggering 50cr deal from Netflix India.

7) Gulabo Sitabo –

Gulabo Sitabo pairs Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurana as lead characters. The film is based on old man (Amitabh Bachchan) having ancestral property in the heart of Lucknow. The makers of Gulabo Sitabo sold the movie for 65Cr to Amazon Prime.

8) Sadak 2 –

A sequel to 1991 film ‘Sadak’, Sadak 2 is comeback movie for Mahesh Bhatt after almost two decades. The film is star studded with the likes of Alia Bhatt, Pooja Bhatt, Aditya Roy Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt as main leads. The makers have sold ‘Sadak 2’ rights to Disney+ Hotstar for 70cr.

9) Bhuj –

A war movie based on 1971 Indo-Pak war, Ajay Devgn along with Sanjay Dutt, Sonakshi Sinha will be seen as lead actors. Ajay Devgn plays the character of Squadron leader Vijay Karnik of Indian Airforce. The film was sold at whopping 110cr to Disney+ Hotstar for the release.  

10) Laxmmi Bomb –

A remake of Tamil movie Muni 2: Kanchana, Laxmi Bomb stars Akshay Kumar in the lead character. Kiara Advani will pair along side Khiladi, Akshay Kumar. The film Laxmi Bomb was sold for, probably one of highest deal for OTT platform which is said to be around 125cr for Disney+ Hotstar.
