After receiving multiple reports that video conference calls being interrupted by “pornographic or hate images and threatening language, the FBI issued a news release on 30th March.

According to fbi.gov, the following steps can be taken to moderate hijacking threats:

  • Do not make meetings or classrooms public on the app.

  • Provide the link directly to specific people, and not share a link to a teleconference on an unrestricted publicly available social media post.

  • In the app, change screensharing to “Host Only.”

  • Ensure to use the updated version of remote access/meeting applications.

  • Make sure that your organization’s telework policy deals with requirements for physical and information security.
