Myth Busted by the WHO around COVID-19

With the rising number of infections, the World Health Organization is taking measures to avoid the spread of the Coronavirus. Covid-19 knowledge should help people keep themselves safe. The number of cases is rising, so WHO has provided a list of myth busters so people can take the right precautions and not be afraid of it.

MYTH

There are drugs licensed for the treatment or prevention of COVID-19

FACT

As per WHO, while several drug trials are ongoing, there is currently no proof that hydroxychloroquine or any other drug can cure or prevent COVID-19. This misuses of hydroxychloroquine can cause serious side effects and illness and even lead to death.


MYTH

Adding Pepper to your meals prevents or cures COVID-19

FACT

Hot peppers in your food cannot prevent or cure COVID-19. As per WHO, the best way to protect yourself against the new coronavirus is to keep at least 1 metre away from others and to wash your hands frequently and thoroughly.

MYTH

COVID-19 is transmitted through house flies and mosquito bites

FACT

As per WHO, there is no evidence till date to suggest that the COVID-19 virus transmitted through house flies or mosquitoes. The virus that causes COVID-19 spreads primarily through droplets generate when an infected person coughs, sneezes, and speaks.

MYTH

Spraying bleach or other disinfectants onto your body protects you against COVID-19


FACT

Under no circumstances should you spray or introduce bleach or any other disinfectant into your body. These substances can be poisonous if ingested and cause irritation and damage to your skin and eyes.

MYTH

Exposing yourself to the sun or to temperatures higher than 25degree Celsius prevents COVID-19

FACT

As per WHO, one can catch COVID-19, no matter how sunny or hot the weather is. Taking a hot bath will also not prevent one from catching COVID-19 as the normal body temperature remains around 36.5C to 37C regardless of the temperature of the bath or shower.


MYTH

Catching the new coronavirus means you will have it for life


FACT

As per WHO, most of the people who catch COVID-19 can recover and eliminate the virus from their bodies. If one catches the disease, they must make sure to treat their symptoms and seek medical care early.
