In India, the mortality rate from COVID-19 is only 3.3 percent, the lowest globally, and about 16500 recoveries are recorded which is a piece of encouraging news. However, there are many more factors to be considered and developed, to cope up with this pandemic.

The goal for the nation right now is to eliminate each rising case and get a complete immunity from the virus which is a major challenge for the country with population of more than 1.35 billion people. One such act of sustainability and the humanitarian act is done by Wipro. In the midst of global pandemic due to COVID-19, Wipro has taken a commendable move by signing a Memorandum of understanding with the government of Maharashtra under which Wipro will re-purpose its Pune IT campus situated in Hingewadi into a 450-bed intermediary care COVID-19 hospital and it will be handed over to the state government. The 450-bed hospital, to be equipped to treat moderate COVID-19 cases which will include 12 beds to stabilize critical cases required to be there before transferring them to a tertiary care hospital. This will be an independent, isolated COVID-19 dedicated complex; it will also include 24 well-appointed rooms to accommodate doctors and medical staff.

Other than the Infrastructure facility, hospital furniture’s and medial equipments, Wipro will be providing the additional workforce to setup the hospital quickly under medical professionals.

Taking in the note the average record rise of 2800+ positive cases per day, and Maharashtra alone counting for more than 16000 cases in India, which is highest in the country. There is serious forward planning required from the state government to build the medical facilities and Infrastructure to fight against this pandemic. However, planning and contribution from the only state government will not help us to fight the battle quickly.

Initiative taken by Wipro can enlighten the hopes and would motivate other big business houses in the country to make them bring a positive contribution to fight against this pandemic by providing more infrastructure and other required medical facilities supporting the state government and contributing to mankind.

There is a famous quote by Henry ford which suits the current situation and motivate all corporates who can contribute in these pandemic “Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success.”

Chief Minister Udhhav Thackeray has praised the move by quoting “Humanitarian contribution by Wipro would further strengthen the State’s medical infrastructure and benefit the medical fraternity at the forefront of the fight against the novel corona virus pandemic”

Last month, Wipro Limited, Wipro Enterprises Limited and the Azim Premji Foundation had together contributed Rs.1, 125 crore to tackle the health and humanitarian crisis arising from the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak.

The relief work has so far touched over 34 lakh beneficiaries across India.
