Rapper Travis Scott Arrested for Being Intoxicated on Yacht

Houston, We Have a Problem: Rapper Travis Scott’s latest headline isn’t for a chart-topping hit. He has been embroiled in a run-in with Miami Beach authorities. Early Thursday morning, Scott, whose real name is Jacques Bermon Webster II, was arrested on charges of disorderly intoxication and trespassing.

So, What Happened on the Yacht?

According to police reports, officers responded to a disturbance call at the Miami Beach Marina. Apparently, Scott was seen “standing by the dock yelling at the vessel occupants.” Although he complied with an initial request to sit down at the hands of police, things suddenly took a turn.

Officers say they spoke to the rapper and could “sense a strong smell of alcohol” on his breath.

The affidavit relates a scene of contempt for police commands and a strong odor of alcohol on Scott’s breath. Though the owner didn’t wish him charged, just off of the boat, things quickly escalated. According to the report, Scott “walked backwards yelling obscenities” as he left the dock.

Think drama’s over? Nah. Scott came back to the marina just five minutes later and, well, apparently started yelling again.  This time, his behavior was described as “erratic” and disturbing the peace of the entire area. It was enough for the authorities to take him into custody.

The report states that the defendant eventually acknowledged consuming alcohol after his arrest, saying: “IT’S MIAMI,” Says Scott (Allegedly)

According to the affidavit, Scott stated that he had drunk alcoholic beverages and also said the now-very-famous quote, “It’s Miami.” He would also later post the photo of his mugshot on his Instagram story, except as a joke, with the picture edited to add sunglasses and headphones.

The rapper appeared to make light of the arrest around 8:45 a.m., tweeting, “Lol.” Later, he uploaded an altered version of his mugshot to his Instagram story, incorporating earbuds and sunglasses.

Scott’s legal representative, Bradford Cohen, said that at no point did the interaction turn physical during the rapper’s “brief” detainment.

“Mr. Scott was briefly detained due to a misunderstanding. There was absolutely no physical altercation involved, and we thank the authorities for working with us towards a swift and amicable resolution,” Cohen said.

The arrest occurs only days before Scott is expected to start his European tour, called “Circus Maximus,” in the Netherlands. Whether this will impact that tour or not has yet to be determined.

This isn’t the first time Scott has been embroiled in controversy. The tragedy at his Astroworld Festival in 2021 where 10 fans died in a crowd surge at Scott’s Astroworld festival in Houston, Texas. It did a lot of damage to his career, with lawsuits citing negligence and not really having crowd control measures in place.

His album Utopia, which was released a week after a scheduled performance in front of Egypt’s pyramids was canceled, achieved its first UK number one position for him last year.

Is this the end of the “goosebumps” rapper’s hot streak? Only time will tell. But sure as day, one thing is definite: This Miami mishap has got the rumor mill of the internet going helter-skelter.
