After questioning the role of the Delhi Police and why they had failed to lodge FIRs against leaders who were responsible for offensive speeches before the violence broke out, Delhi High Court’s Justice S Muralidhar was transferred on to the Punjab and Haryana high court.
The judge held three key hearings on the Delhi riots and passed orders that would hold instigators accountable for the communal violence. The final decision was taken by the President after consulting the Chief Justice of India. The judge was transferred on Wednesday (26th February) to the Punjab and Haryana high court. However, the notification does not mention when he has to take charge of his new office.
Here’s the notice released by the Law Ministry on Wednesday:
On Tuesday midnight Justice Muralidhar also held a late-night hearing at his residence and asked Delhi Police to ensure the safety of all those who have been harmed in Delhi violence. He also said that Delhi cannot afford to witness another 1984-like condition, referring to the anti-Sikh riots in which thousands were killed in the national capital Delhi. He again slammed Delhi Police on Wednesday for continuous violence over 3 days.
This is how people on Twitter reacted on the sudden transfer orders given by the Modi government to Justice Muralidhar:
