Our cake display at Cake International Birmingham, UK at the entrance of the show. I was invited by Cake International (the world’s biggest cake show and competition) to do a cake display for their show. What followed was months of planning and stressing, then some more planning and some more stressing. I wanted to do a display with larger than life cakes (not one but many). I had quite a few ideas in mind but liked the Welcome idea best. The lovely Melanie Underwood from Cake International came back saying that they will give us the entrance feature (prime location as it’s right at the entrance so no one will miss it), and it could be a welcome feature from Us and Cake International welcoming everyone to the show! Awesome! Then I approached artists who I thought would best be able to implement my idea and bring it to life. I have to be honest here, I wanted so many more incredible artists to participate and I had so many in mind. I wanted to invite them all! But since it was my first display, I couldn’t go bigger than what I had planned already, which was already quite big! I was very happy with the artists who joined me in making this vision a reality. I wanted to make an Indian lady dressed in traditional Indian attire and I chose the saree. It was months of planning with the artists, because when you have human figures (all larger than life size) and all being made by different people, you need to make sure that all humans are proportionate to each other. Also, all the other elements needed to match and it all needed to come together as a whole theme, so the colours needed to be discussed in detail, height, proportion, base size, etc. All the artists were so amazing. I’m thrilled that it all came together so well.
