5th September is celebrated as Teachers’ Day in our country. The reason behind this celebration is to mark the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, born on September 5th 1888. He was a great scholar, philosopher and a Bharat Ratna recipient. It is believed that Dr Radhakrishnan once said that it would be “Proud privilege“for him if his birthday would be celebrated as teachers’ day. So since 1962, when he was elected as President of India, the country has been celebrating his birth anniversary as Teachers’ day to commemorate his work.
From the ancient times only, it is believed that the burden of passing knowledge onto the future generation lies on our teacher. They shape the future in their classrooms, year after year. This day we appreciate their contribution to the society and honor their endeavors.
