More than 7,150 people have died so far from the coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak, as of March 17, 2020. Currently, there are more than 182,200 confirmed cases in 162 countries. Coronavirus cases rise to 126 and the death toll rises to three in India today. Many monuments including Rajghat, Red Fort, and Qutub Minar are closed till 31st March on account of Covid-19. The government of Uttarakhand has declared coronavirus as an epidemic in the state.
Many Indians consider the cow to be sacred and even believe that drinking cow urine and taking a bath in cow dung will help them cure many major diseases. The Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha (All India Hindu Union) group at its headquarters hosted a cow urine-drinking event on Saturday in New Delhi, in the hope that the practice will help in beating off the coronavirus. “We have been drinking cow urine for 21 years; we also take a bath in cow dung. We have never felt the need to consume English medicine,” said Om Prakash, one of the party attendees. Inspiring from the event, Mabud Ali a vendor from Kolkata started selling cow urine and cow dung at Rs 500 a litre and Rs 500 a kilo respectively to ensure immunity from the deadly novel Coronavirus.
Experts have repetitively claimed that cow urine does not cure illnesses and diseases like cancer and there is no evidence that it can prevent coronavirus. Debprasad Chattopadhyay, a virologist medicine researcher stated that “There is no scientific validation that any of these traditional medicines work to prevent coronavirus.” He also added that “Cow dung and urine are waste material, there is no test that validates or proves they are good for us.”
Another myth about the COVID-19 is wearing a face mask can protect you from the virus, whereas these face masks can put a stop to infected people from spreading the virus further.
There are several other myths like drinking wine or any other alcohol can stop spreading of the virus in the body or itβs not safe to receive a package from China and so on.
The biggest myth is- getting COVID-19 is a death sentence, which is totally wrong as a study shows that about 82% of people have mild cases and only around 2.3% of people have died due to coronavirus.
These videos from experts like WHO and others will help you to take precautions and safety measures amid COVID-19 outbreak:
