A.R. Rahman openly condemn ‘Masakali 2.0’, Receives Endless Support For His Tweet

AR Rahman publicly criticized the new version Masakali song sung by Sachet Tandon and Tulsi Kumar and asked fans to enjoy the original track of the song.

Yesterday, we heard the new version of the Masakali song, which is Masakali 2.0. Featuring Sidharth Malhotra and Tara Sutaria’s Masakali Masakali 2.0 is sung by Sachet Tandon and Tulsi Kumar, the music is recreated by Tanishk Bagchi. The song is a recreated version of AR Rahman’s track from the film Delhi-6, which was composed by AR Rahman, sung by Mohit Chauhan and featured Sonam Kapoor and Abhishek Bachchan. The video of the new version of the song shows Sidharth and Tara sneaking into a hotel room and dancing around until the real guests of the room get back.

While most of us loved the original Delhi-6 track, we cannot say the similar about the remake. You can check out Masakali 2.0 here:

Though Rahman is credited as the original composer of the song, he has openly criticized the new version of his song Masakali from 2009 movie Delhi 6. He shared a tweet within few hours of a release of the recreated version on Wednesday. Though he did not mention Masakali 2.0 in his statement, he tweeted- “Enjoy the original #Masakali, looked like to say it all.

In his tweet, he mentioned: “No short-cuts, properly commissioned, sleepless nights, writes and re-writes. Over 200 musicians, 365 days of creative brainstorming with the aim to produce music that can last generations. A team of a director, a composer and a lyricist supported by actors, dance directors and a relentless film crew.”

Here is what Rehman tweeted:

Prasoon Joshi, the Lyricist of the original song also condemned the song by stating that all songs he wrote for Delhi 6, is close to his heart. He tweeted- “All songs written for Delhi 6, including Masakali close to heart. Sad to see when original creation of AR Rahman, Prasoon Joshi and singer Mohit Chauhan insensitively utilised. Up to the conscience of T-Series.Hopefully the fans will stand for originality.”

Not only the artists associated with the original song, but also the director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra was not happy with the new version of the song. He even mentioned being aware of the new re-mix songs as it can damage your earbuds. Replying to AR Rahman’s tweet, he wrote-“#Masakali #Delhi6 Created with love & passion an iconic song that has to be preserved. Beware of the re- mix it will damage your eardrums.”

The next morning after Mr. Rahman’s and Prasoon Joshi’s tweets, twitter was flooded with immense love and support for the original track Masakali, composed by  AR Rahman. Netizens also criticized the song very much and tweeted like-“This is like one tight slap,” read a tweet while another added “#ARRahman is the most calm artist I have known but @TSeries managed to piss him off. You guys really need to think it through before ruining every nostalgic melody. Like #Masakali was the only time I loved Sonam. It was and it is a special song for us. For the sake of pigeons.” Read more here:
