Today marks the birth anniversary of great Maratha king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Shivaji Maharaj has been a natural leader and fighter who is also founder of the Maratha Kingdom, born on February 19, 1630 in Shivneri, Pune. A born leader who won numerous wars against the Mughals through the help of a disciplined military and well-structured administrative organisations. Shivaji Maharaj also expanded his army from 2,000 soldiers to 100,000. The great Maratha king was the one who revived ancient Hindu political traditions and court conventions. Also, Marathi and Sanskrit were promoted instead of Persian in his court and administration.
Memorials of Shivaji are found in almost every major cities of India, most notably in Maharashtra. Chhatrapati Shivaji, a brave warrior died in 1680 but still today, he is known as a source of inspiration and pride for generations.
