In terms of games, 2024 was a truly exceptional year. The 2024 gaming season indeed produced some amazing games to keep playing, ranging from remakes of old titles like Silent Hill 2 to brand-new titles like Black Myth: Wukong, Stalker 2, and Tekken 8. 

The year 2025 is shaping up to be a landmark year for gaming enthusiasts, with a plethora of highly anticipated releases across various genres and platforms. These are some games that you should be on the lookout for this year.

1. Kingdom Come: Deliverance II

The sequel to the critically acclaimed medieval RPG promises an expansive open world, enriched storytelling, and improved gameplay mechanics. 

This medieval-themed RPG invites players back into a world defined by its historical realism. Explore vast, living landscapes while navigating a gripping story centered around power, loyalty, and revenge.

2. Monster Hunter Wilds

The latest upcoming installment in the Monster Hunter franchise, Wilds looks like it may be the cherry on top of a several year run of great Monster Hunter games. 

It looks like the evolution from Monster Hunter World that we were hoping for with a more responsive, simulated open world of monsters to hunt.

3. Death Stranding 2: On the beach

Hideo Kojima’s next project promises an emotionally charged experience. On the Beach will retain a focus on wide-scale exploration and the nature of societal connection while weaving elements of mystery, exploration, and survival into a hauntingly beautiful world.  

4. Borderlands 4

The latest installment in the humour filled looter-shooter game provides another video game to the beloved borderlands franchise. 

Caught up in a war between the The Order and The Rippers, you and three friends will be free to explore Kairos as and when you want to, switching your arsenal up with hundreds of thousands of weapons to fight hordes of synthetic and organic enemies.

5. Doom: The Dark Ages

Stepping away from its futuristic roots, Doom: The Dark Ages transports players to a medieval setting filled with knights, cultists and other monstrous foes. With an emphasis on brutal combat and atmospheric exploration, this prequel provides a fresh twist to the legendary series

6. Assassins Creed: Shadows

Assassin’s Creed Shadows set in feudal Japan delivers a period of history marked by civil war. It gives you the liberty to play the character that you want, from a ninja to a samurai, this installment in the Ubisoft’s classic franchise is very anticipated in 2025.

7. Elden Ring: Nightreign

Nightreign is another DLC in the elden ring franchise, though rather than being a simple expansion, it acts as a standalone in itself. 

This game provides us With a battle royale style shrinking circle, and boss monsters pulling from the rest of the developer’s portfolio, Elden Ring Nightreign is almost something of a franchise celebration.

9. Subnautica 2

Subnautica 2 takes us back to the unexplored and uncanny open water world. With Multiplayer being introduced, we’ll have a choice to either explore this world with either a companion or alone.

9. Ghost of Yotei

The stunningly cinematic PS4 exclusive Ghost of Tsushima is finally getting a sequel, with Ghost of Yotei slated for a 2025 launch. Ghost of Yotei introduces a new protagonist, Atsu, set in Hokkaido some 300 years after the events of Jin’s Tsushima journey. 

With a new map, characters, and branching narrative to explore, Ghost of Yotei, reigns as one of the most anticipated launches in 2025.

Though many more games are scheduled for release in 2025, these few games have been regarded as the season’s most anticipated releases.
