On Tuesday, the 57-year-old actress took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a photo of herself holding two kittens. “Sometimes I’m good,” she wrote, referencing her character’s iconic closing monologue from the 2004 film.

Although the movie initially flopped at the box office and received negative reviews from critics, it has since gained a cult following in the streaming era.

“It’s been 20 years since I had the honor of bringing this iconic character to life. THANK YOU to the fans who have embraced Catwoman (even if it was a little delayed). Patience Phillips is finally getting her due. Meow!” Berry expressed her gratitude to the fans.

Celebrating with Fans

Berry continued to celebrate the anniversary on Instagram, posting more photos with her cats. She expressed her affection for the project and its renewed popularity.

“She will always be close to my heart, and I will forever be Patience Phillips aka CATWOMAN!” Berry wrote in the caption.

Reflecting on the Film’s Legacy

In an interview recently, Berry reflected on the film’s journey and its peculiar legacy. The discussion included insights from director Pitof, producer Denise Di Novi, and writer John Brancato.

Berry opened up about her experience, from her infamous Razzies speech for Worst Actress—where she accepted the award while holding her Oscar—to the backlash she faced for her Catwoman suit.

“I didn’t love the backlash. Being a Black woman, I’m used to carrying negativity on my back, fighting, being a fish swimming upstream by myself,” Berry said. Despite the criticism, she remained resilient.

“I went and collected that Razzie, laughed at myself, and kept it moving. It didn’t derail me because I’ve fought as a Black woman my whole life. A little bad publicity about a movie? I didn’t love it, but it wasn’t going to stop my world or derail me from doing what I love to do.”

Becoming a Cat Lover

Halle Berry also revealed that her role in Catwoman transformed her into a cat lover. A self-proclaimed lifelong dog person, she adopted the kittens she found in her yard earlier this year.

“I became a cat lover because of the movie,” Berry told the interviewer. “I’m a Catwoman through and through because of that experience and those relationships. That experience changed me.”

Influence on Future Generations

Berry’s portrayal of Catwoman has had a lasting impact on Hollywood and future portrayals of the character. Gotham stars Camren Bicondova and Lili Simmons, who played Selina Kyle (Catwoman) in the Fox drama series, cited Berry as a significant influence.

“Seeing her as Catwoman brought strength to young girls around the world, knowing that they, too, could be action heroes—not just men,” Simmons said.

Bicondova added, “Halle Berry exudes femininity through her strength and class. She broke down doors so others could walk through them—and did that with style and grace. To me, it’s what made her perfect to play Catwoman.”

Halle Berry’s celebration of Catwoman’s 20th anniversary with her topless kitten photos is a testament to her enduring connection to the character and the fans. Despite the initial negative reception, the film has found its place in pop culture, thanks to Berry’s dedication and resilience.

Her influence continues to inspire new generations of actors and fans alike, solidifying her legacy as Catwoman.
