Serena Williams Called Out Harrison Butker At The ESPYS 2024

Serena Williams Called Out Harrison Butker At The ESPYS 2024

Tennis champion Serena Williams hosted this year’s ESPYS and our outspoken host did a really good job there. She hosted the event too well and also called out  Harrison Butker for his misogynistic remarks during his speech at a graduation ceremony at Benedictine College, a small Catholic school in Atchison, Kansas.

Harrison Butker sparked controversy after stating Pride Month a deadly sin and then continuing that women will find more fulfillment and satisfaction through getting married and having children than by pursuing careers, directly after quoting a song by Taylor Swift. The public was quick to disregard these irrelevant views of the Kansas City Chiefs kicker.

In front of almost 500 male and female graduates, Butker felt the need to say, “I want to speak directly to you briefly because I think it is you, the women, who have had the most diabolical lies told to you.”

“How many of you are sitting here now about to cross this stage and are thinking about all the promotions and titles you are going to get in your career? Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world, but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world,” he said.

The NFL is also keeping a distance from him ever since his controversial remarks. The NFL issued a statement that his speech was based on the player’s limited views and didn’t reflect the views of the NFL.

The NFL clearly doesn’t seem in favor of the player’s statement and was quick to draw a line with him.

“Harrison Butker gave a speech in his personal capacity. His views are not those of the NFL as an organization,” said Senior Vice President Jonathan Beane, the league’s chief diversity and inclusion officer. “The NFL is steadfast in our commitment to inclusion, which only makes our league stronger.”

GLAAD also issued a statement calling Butker’s speech “a clear miss” and “woefully out of step with Americans about Pride, LGBTQ people and women.” The Chiefs, defending Super Bowl champions and one of the NFL’s marquee teams, have not responded to requests for comment.  However, a lot of women and Taylor Swift fans are clearly upset and have expressed themselves including the sisters of Mount St. Scholastica Monastery, a founding institution and sponsor of Benedictine College.

During the ESPYS event, Serena Williams was quick to call out Harris Butker. He was also in the audience but the camera wasn’t able to catch his reactions. While mentioning the interesting feats performed by female athletes with sister Venus Williams and presenter Quinta Brinson, she dragged

Harrison for his controversial remarks.

“Enjoy women’s sports, they’re just like other sports,” Venus told the audience, prompting Serena to chime in, “Except you Harrison Butker.”

She added, “We don’t need you.”

After Venus showed her approval by snapping her fingers in the air, Quinta added with a deadpan expression, “At all. Like, ever.”

A lot of people are appreciating these women to call out people like Harris on their orthodox views about women. However, Serena isn’t the only celeb to speak out after Butker’s eyebrow-raising remarks, which included suggesting to the female grads that they “are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world”.All of them criticized Harris open-heartedly on the internet.
