The exponential growth rate in coronavirus cases in Delhi is a concern about the pressure on the healthcare system of the city. Lack of facilities and overstrained staff is already a problem for the city. Despite this, the Central government appears to be in refutation about the scale of the problem.
As reported by NDTV, Manish Sisodia said that the Centre’s official stance is that there is no community transmission of coronavirus in Delhi.
After the meeting with the Delhi Disaster Management Authority, Manish Sisodia said that “On community spread in Delhi, central government officials said it has not happened yet.”
When people don’t know the source of how they got infected, then it is known as community spread, the case with 50% of Delhi’s patients. Only the Centre has the authority to proclaim community spread.
By 15 June, there'll be 44,000 cases & 6,600 beds will be needed. By 30 June we'll reach 1 lakh cases & 15,000 beds will be required. By 15 July there'll be 2.25 lakh cases & 33,000 beds will be needed. By 31 July, 5.5 lakh cases expected & 80,000 beds will be needed: Delhi Dy CM pic.twitter.com/F5iXDlgO7R

5.5 lakh cases are projected to arise in Delhi by 31 July, and at least 80,000 beds would be required. According to the Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain, “AIIMS Director Randeep Guleria had said there is community transmission in Delhi but the centre has not accepted it yet. We cannot declare it and the centre has to declare it. Community spread is a technical term and it depends on the Centre whether they accept it or not. There are four stages in epidemiology in which the third stage is the community spread.”
These are highly alarming signals because these measures will only be done after the problem is recognized as being in the community stage.
