Finally, the verdict of death warrant against all four convicts of the 2012 Nirbhaya gang rape and murder case has been made. Delhi court on Tuesday issued the death warrant against the convicts, Mukesh Singh, Pawan Gupta, Vinay Sharma, and Akshay Kumar Singh. The execution will take place in jail number 3 at Tihar, Delhi and has been scheduled for 7 am on January 22.

The mother of one of the convict begged Nirbhaya’s mother for the life of his son and appealed- “Mere bete ko maaf kar do please. Main uski zindagi ki bheekh maangti hoon tumse.” “(Please forgive my son. I beg you for his life).” Nirbhaya’s mother replied: “I had a daughter too. What happened to her, how can I forget? I have been waiting for justice for seven years.”

Nirbhaya’s mother told reporters that the execution of the four convicts would help in women’s empowerment in the country. “The decision by the court will strengthen the trust of people of the country. January 22 will be a big day for all of us. My daughter has got justice,” she said.

Sources report that all four convicts will be in separate cells, in isolation, at Jail 3. They will be allowed to meet their family member, only once.

On December 16, 2012, the 23-year-old woman was raped and tortured brutally with an iron rod before being thrown onto the road. The girl died 16 days later, on December 22, leaving the nation angry and shocked.
